A Safe & FDA-Approved Solution For Treatment-Restistant Depression

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) stands out as a safe, effective, and FDA-approved treatment for individuals grappling with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and OCD. Unlike surgical interventions or electrode implantation, NeuroStar TMS is a non-invasive approach that doesn’t trigger seizures or necessitate complete sedation with anesthesia. This makes it a preferable choice for individuals seeking relief from the burdens of depression without the inherent risks associated with more invasive treatments.

NeuroStar TMS therapy is known for its mild and generally manageable side effects. The most commonly reported side effect is a mild headache, which, in most cases, can be effectively alleviated with over-the-counter pain relievers. This means that individuals undergoing NeuroStar TMS therapy can anticipate a relatively smooth and tolerable experience, with the likelihood of side effects diminishing after the initial one to two weeks of treatment.

How Does NeuroStar TMS Work?

NeuroStar TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate specific parts of the brain. During a NeuroStar TMS session, a special coil is placed on your head, and it sends magnetic pulses to your brain. These pulses activate your brain cells and encourage them to release chemicals that help with mood regulation and other brain functions. NeuroStar TMS treatment involves a series of sessions over a few weeks, and it’s believed to create longer-lasting changes in brain activity that can improve symptoms, especially for those who haven’t responded to traditional treatments.

NeuroStar TMS is safe and conducted under the guidance of our highly skilled medical professionals, tailored to each person’s needs. If you’re seeking relief from conditions like depression, anxiety, or OCD, consider contacting Contemporary Care Centers to explore NeuroStar TMS therapy as a possible solution for your mental health journey.

Frequently Asked Questions About TMS NY

What is TMS?

TMS, which stands for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a cutting edge treatment for unipolar depression that uses a magnetic field to stimulate brain areas that control your moods. These areas are believed to be under-active in people with depression. This FDA approved procedure provides a safer, drug-free, faster-acting alternative to antidepressants. It can also be used along with medication.

What are TMS sessions like?

TMS therapy typically takes between 30-50 minutes during an in-office visit. We also offer a Thera-burst option for shorter, 3 minute sessions. You’ll sit fully awake in a chair while your TMS Treater administers the treatment. A small curved device containing a magnetic coil will rest on your head, delivering magnetic stimulation precisely where your brain needs it. There is no need for recovery time afterward; you can get straight back to your daily activities.

How many treatments will I need?

Standard procedure for TMS therapy involves one daily session 5 days per week for 4 – 6 weeks. From there, most recipients experience remission of depression symptoms for over 12 months.

How safe is it?

TMS is considered an extremely safe way to manage depression without the potential side effects of medications. It uses far less magnetic energy but the same type and strength of magnetic fields used in MRIs, which have been safely used for tens of millions of people around the world. Research has shown no negative brain effects such as concentration difficulties or memory loss from the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

TMS therapy won’t cause side effects associated with medications such as sexual dysfunction, weight gain or fatigue, but you may experience discomfort or pain around the treatment area shortly after. Any discomfort typically subsides on its own within a week.

Is it covered by insurance?

Most private insurance providers as well as Medicare and TRICARE cover TMS therapy for treatment of major depressive disorder.
