Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Barbara. With great passion and clarity she shared her long story and battle with life long anxiety and depression. “Perhaps it is genetic, as I do have some relatives who also suffer from a variety of similar symptoms.” By the time Barbara reached College, her difficulties intensified to the extend where she was struggling with the crowed, congested and massive campus. This experience was creating severe panic attacks. She started eating her lunch in her car because she could not even enter the large cafeteria and eating in front of anyone became more and more difficult. As time went on, these attacks were coming in waves getting worse and worse with each one.
She strived for a productive life. She graduated college in 3 years, got her first job in Marketing at a Fortune 100 company and married her college sweetheart. However, the level of anxiety and depression was increasing and became so bad that by age 22 she could not leave her home. Her world was getting smaller and closing in to the point she could not even look out a window. She was diagnosed with severe agoraphobia and depression. She lost her job and her marriage was annulled. Baby step by baby step, she started to improve. She landed a new job and was able to travel for work and rebuild her career. Then another wave hit and the depression and anxiety crippled her again ending in hospitalization.
Barbara spent the next 20 years trying to have a successful career and a normal life. She was a warrior determined to get better. She had battled depression and anxiety for 25 years, had two hospitalizations, tried over 25 medications, saw 10+ therapists, went to support groups and participated in intense self-help programs. Several job losses and another failed marriage later, Barbara found hope. One day while watching The Dr Oz Show, she learned about TMS Treatment and discovered Dr. Perera. Within 2 months of treatments, she was displaying a 15% improvement.
With the success of TMS, Barbara is 90% free of her systems. She is married now for 9 years and they are building their dream home on a lake in South Carolina. For the first time, Barbara is able to lead of full, happy, fearless life.
We were all so impressed with her journey through depression and anxiety and her heroic effort to find a solution.
“Dr Perera saved my life” was the final thing she shared with me. We are most grateful to Barbara for sharing her amazing story.
