Oral Antidepressants work differently from other medications to target treatment resistant depression. Spravato is esketamine nasal spray. It targets the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor and is believed to work differently than currently antidepressants. Sparvato is only available at centers such as Contemporary Care Centers, where the treatment is under the supervision of a psychiatrist and anesthesiologist. Those patients who have been treated with Ketamine have experienced a faster reduction of depression symptoms at 4 weeks than those who received a placebo. Patients who continued the treatment had better results than those who stopped.
